Bryan Singer Locks Deal With Fox, Will direct ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ This Fall

By February 4, 2016

More like 20,000 people asking “what about X-Men, though?”

X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer will officially be taking on a new project, Deadline reports. That project will be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea  for 20th Century Fox and it starts shooting this Fall.

He had posted the script on Instagram a few months ago, saying he hoped to direct the film and that he would not be abandoning X-men:

But allow me to wreck your dreams! Kidding. But seriously, how is this whole thing going to work? This is apparently not just a singulary flick, but one they are planning to launch an entire franchise out of. With the yearly rate superhero films are coming out, one has to wander if he’ll be available to direct the next full on X-Men film.

I have no doubts he’ll be onboard in some capacity as Fox doesn’t want to short their other franchise. One would argue a producer title is more likely the next time around, but of course thats purely speculatory.

Either way, it looks like 20,000 Leagues will finally be getting off the ground. The script was written by Singer, Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney and those aren’t the only Hollywood hands that have circled the project. At one point way back when, even David Fincher was rumoured to be helming the film.

Happy thoughts now, as it seems like Singer is over the top excited to be starting up yet another franchise that has apparently been dear to him since childhood. Who knows what will happen with the director of the next X-Men film, if it’s not Singer himself.

Let’s just tell Fox to make sure they stay away from that guy who made X-Men: The Last Stand this time around. People didn’t really go for that whole “lets kill everyone” thing. Stay tuned for any updates, right here on GeekNation!
