Chewie: The Movie!

By August 2, 2012

They say “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and dogs are man’s best friend” but for me, it’s always been “Wookiees are a Han’s best friend…and mine, too.”

Yesterday, reported that Fanboys director Kyle Newman is developing a film based on the life of Peter Mayhew, better known around the world as everyone’s beloved Wookiee and Star Wars icon, Chewbacca.

Appropriately titled “Chewie”, the film will be set in 1977, the year Mayhew balanced a superhero-like life as a hospital worker by day/Wookiee by night during production of the first Star Wars film.

If it seems like some kind of pipe dream, I assure you, it isn’t.

The project was confirmed on Tuesday by Mayhew himself AND director Newman via Twitter.

The Force is strong with these two…

As virtually everyone knows, I am a HOOGE Star Wars AND Fanboys fangirl (seriously, both films ALWAYS make me cry at the end), so best BELIEVE I’ll be keeping track of this one!

SQUEEEEEEEE!!!! *cue Cantina Band music whilst I do a happy dance*

GeekNation’s Clare Kramer sat down with Mayhew at Wizard World Philly and talked to him about his latest projects, and you can watch that HERE.

Stay tuned!
