Christopher Nolan’s ‘Memento’ Getting The Remake Treatment

By November 16, 2015

Chalk this one up to, what the hell?

Thanks to a scoop by Borys Kit over at The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that AMBI Pictures is set to remake Christopher Nolan’s Momento. Yup, that’s right, the masterpiece that put Nolan on the map is being remade.

Turns out that AMBI attained the remake rights to a number of films through the acquisition of the Exclusive Media Group’s library, and apparently, someone there thought this was a good idea. Said AMBI Pictures’ Monika Bacardi:

Memento is a masterpiece that leaves audiences guessing not just throughout the film, but long after as well, which is a testament to its daring approach. We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It’s a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers.

And to her I say, what’s the point? The movie is only fifteen years old, which is time enough that if you haven’t seen it (the question then becomes why? Because it’s fantastic!) it’s easy enough to seek out. I get the idea behind wanting to remake things that already have a definitive brand and a (possibly) built in audience, but this one just doesn’t make any sense.

And I have a feeling that the backlash from the Nolan fan-boys isn’t going to help matters in the least. Not that I can say I blame them with this one.
