Clive Barker Returning For ‘Hellraiser’ Remake, Wants to Bring Doug Bradley With Him

By October 25, 2013

“You opened it. We came. Now you must come with us, taste our pleasures. No tears, please. It’s a waste of good suffering. We have such sights to show you!”

Get ready to hear that chilling and immortal phrase once again, darlings – Clive Barker and Doug Bradley are returning to open the box once more with a remake of the FIRST film that started it all, Hellraiser.

If you need more proof, Barker himself confirmed the glorious news Thursday via his Facebook fan page.

Back in 1987, Barker made his directorial mark on the world as a master of horror by taking his book-to-film adaptation of his own novella “The Hellbound Heart” and turning it into Hellraiser, a somewhat cautionary, sexy, and uber-gory tale of what happens when you solve puzzles that shouldn’t really be solved…and once that box is opened? Game over, man.

As a fan of ALL of his works (Midnight Meat Train, Candyman, Gods And Monsters, etc.) and knowing the health problems he’s been plagued with since 2008 when he had life-threatening polyps removed from his throat (and again in 2010 to have new ones removed) as well as falling into a eleven-day coma after a dental visit led to blood poisoning in 2012, I’m SO relieved to know that Barker is finally well enough to pick up the pen in order to terrify, titillate, and delight horror AND Hellraiser fans around the world.

The news of Doug Bradley’s return as Pinhead is equally as exciting as he’s served the role QUITE well in eight films (he declined to appear in ninth film, Hellraiser: Revelations) and there is NO one else I want in that role EVER AGAIN.

I’m not normally thrilled to hear remakes are being made but in this case, I’m making a HUGE exception…because I love the shiz out of Clive Barker. Plus, how rare is it that the original writer of a property comes back for the remake? Pretty freakin’ rare.

Stay tuned.
