Daisy Ridley and J.J. Abrams Reteaming For New Mystical Romance ‘Kolma’

By April 18, 2016

No matter what you say about J.J. Abrams as a filmmaker or your problems with The Force Awakens, if there was one thing that the film solidified – it was Abrams’ skillful ability at casting his films, and giving unknown actors and actresses a chance to shine onscreen. No other name was quite as solid of an example of that either, than Daisy Ridley, who has shot to superstardom following her work as Rey in the film and has become one of the most sought-after actresses working today.

The actress is currently busy in production on director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, but it looks like she’ll be reteaming with Abrams in some capacity on a new, intriguing fantasy romance called Kolma.

TheWrap is reporting that Ridley is in talks to sign on as the female lead in the film, with Abrams serving as one of the film’s producer and The Diary of a Teenage Girl helmer, Marielle Heller, in talks to direct it as well. The film has been described as a mix between The Notebook and Albert Brooks’ Defending Your Life, and is based on Keren Margalit’s 2003 Israeli movie of the week titled All I’ve Got.

The story follows a young couple who get into a fatal car accident that leaves the man dead, and fifty years later, when the girl is older and ready to cross over, she is given the choice between reuniting with her long-lost love in the afterlife, or going back to the day that changed her life forever.

After signing on to executive produce a Sundance hit documentary, and already being heavily-rumored to be the lead in the new Tomb Raider reboot, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that one of the first projects Ridley would sign onto in her post-Force Awakens days is reuniting her with Abrams. With Heller at the helm as well, who made waves with Diary of a Teenage Girl, this sounds like a genuinely interesting and unique film. It also might happen to feature the first collaboration between two of the most interesting and promising female voices in the industry today. Count me in.

Your choice of movies to compare it to threw Me, but the synopsis sounds interesting! Defending Your Life was definitely one of Brooks best.
