Daniel Cudmore Confirms He Isn’t Doing ‘Deadpool’

By February 17, 2015

Oh, rumors. Aren’t rumors great? And you know what they say about what happens when you “assume,” but many fans were hoping that this particular rumor would be true.

When the Deadpool movie was confirmed with Ryan Reynolds in place as the titular smart-assed mercenary, more hopeful names were also thrown into the mix as to who else would be making an appearance — one of those being the X-Man Colossus — played by Daniel Cudmore, who originated the role in 2003’s X2: X-Men United.

The liquid metal mutant with a heart of gold has become a staple, as well as a fan favorite, in the franchise, appearing in X2, The Last Stand, and last year’s Days of Future Past. The hope was that Cudmore would reprise the role in the upcoming Deadpool film, but sadly, this isn’t meant to be.

Before you say, “I’ll believe it when I hear it from Cudmore himself,” he’s done just that by taking to Twitter earlier Tuesday morning to confirm the sad news and to thank the fans for the support and love.

And in a classic nice guy move that is the truly nice guy Cudmore is made of, he gives his endorsement of the film:

If they cast another guy as Colossus, I’ll be the first to admit I’ll be super sad…but, could this mean something huge is about to happen for Cudmore? Perhaps a certain DC superhero who wears a huge lightning bolt on his chest and loves to yell “SHAZAM?”

But take that with a grain of salt — I’m merely fantasy casting.

That said, if Colossus makes an appearance in the Deadpool film, who would you like to see play the role?
