While perusing Weev – the latest social video app that allows users to not only ask questions, but answer them in five seconds or less – I came across Stan Lee’s video asking “Who’s your favorite superhero?”
The first couple responses came from none other than Michael Rooker (who plays Yondu in James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy) and some friends I recognized peppered throughout the video replies, but it was ONE response that made me take notice.
I normally wouldn’t have thought anything of it, but after seeing this masked man tilt his head ever so slightly and saying “Hmm” in a very cheeky way (and knowing his work since his days when he sported that AMAZING mullet on “The Facts Of Life”), I am 99.9% sure this man is indeed George Clooney.
Clooney appeared as the Caped Crusader in 1997’s Batman and Robin, a movie which many fans and critics alike have dubbed “the worst of the Batman films,” and the one that nearly destroyed the film franchise as well as Clooney’s career. The actor seems to have a pretty good sense of humor about his superheroic past, though. When asked by Empire Magazine about what he thought of Ben Affleck being the next to don the cowl, he said:
I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part. I tend to look at it like this – let’s just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing.
There’s an urban legend out there that says if you stop Clooney on the street and ask for your money back for seeing Batman and Robin in theaters, he’ll pay you in cash out of his own pocket. Clooney himself has said he knew the film sucked (and stated “I think we might have killed the franchise”) and he hated the nipples Schumacher added to the Batsuit. Clooney’s also known for being quite the prankster and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit that he could “anonymously” pop up on this up-and-coming video app to give fans a little chortle.
I have shown this video to a few people and no one other than myself is convinced this is indeed the most famous salt and pepper bearded man in the world. And to that I say that if it ISN’T him, I will eat a Batcowl made from black licorice and upload it for the whole world to see.
If this is indeed you, Mr. Clooney – I would love it if you’d confirm…because I really, really, REALLY friggin’ hate black licorice. Did I mention I give really great hugs?
What do you think? Feel free to watch the video and tell me if YOU think it’s him. (His appearance is about 15 or 20 people deep. You’ll know him when you see him.)
