Matthew McConaughey won’t be back as Dallas in Magic Mike XXL, but that doesn’t mean that the party has to stop. Warner Bros. has announced the full cast for the Channing Tatum-starring sequel, and unveiled a brand new official synopsis of the film. Here’s the synopsis (via ComingSoon):
Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
I’m originally from Jacksonville, and it’s rarely been a major setting on film, so on a personal level I’m interested to see the antics that Mike and the guys get into while they’re cruising through my old city.
We’d already heard that Andie MacDowell, Amber Heard, and Jada Pinkett Smith would be joining the cast, but WB now says that Donald Glover, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Strahan will also be coming along for the ride alongside returning cast members Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, and Gabriel Iglesias. There are no details about who the new cast members will be playing, but as a big Donald Glover fan, I can’t wait to see how he fits into this world.
Since leaving “Community,” Glover has been busy with his music career as hip hop artist Childish Gambino, but he’ll appear soon in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Really Bad Day. Banks is making her feature directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, which is slated to hit theaters in 2015, and she’ll reprise her role as Effie in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 in November.
