E3 ’13 Quick Look: COD Ghosts Shows Off New Mission

On Monday, gameplay footage from the upcoming Call Of Duty: Ghosts was unleashed upon the world…and it was good.

The latest title in the COD franchise boasts an all-new gameplay experience, new story, setting, cast of characters and powered by a new engine that “redefines the series for the next generation”.

On Thursday, I hit a closed-door demo of said awesomeness and was able to see a level that hasn’t been seen by the public…but first, let’s talk about the two levels of gameplay that are out there as we speak.

First, there was the introduction of the new K-9 unit (named Riley) in “No Man’s Land”.

BUT WAIT, THAT’S NOT ALL!

THEN there’s the all-new underwater level “Into The Deep” that introduces a new weapon, the APS (Avtomat Podvodny Spetsialny or “Special Underwater Assault Rifle”) amphibious rifle that is a REAL weapon and REALLY works underwater with a range up to 100 feet. Reps from Activision say that “this is the most beautifully built level so far.”

After seeing it, I gotta agree, man.

And if that weren’t enough, I was treated to some brand-new gameplay in a mission known as “Federation Day”.

In the single-player mission, players will find themselves in Caracas, Venezuela rappelling in and out of a collapsing skyscraper while taking out enemies in the midst of fireworks and revelers below celebrating Federation Day.

I wish I could show you some footage from this mission because there’s something to be said for being super afraid of heights and not only zip-lining from building to building and then running in, out and down (facing forward) the side of a skyscraper (with the occasional ambushing of enemies on random balconies) before the top end breaks off.

Combine that with 60 frames per second and you’ve got one HELL of a ride.

As always, there’s those who’ll always be Team Battlefield (EA) and those who’re strictly Team COD; I like both games but if back’s to the wall, I’ll take Call Of Duty EVERY time.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts reports for action on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 5th.
