Elton John In Talks to Join the Cast of ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’

By April 12, 2016

Keeping up the recent steady stream of Kingsman: The Golden Circle news, following the casting of Game of Thrones‘ Pedro Pascal in a prominent role, and the possible confirmation of Colin Firth’s return for the sequel as well, the highly-anticipated film from director Matthew Vaughn may have just landed one of the most iconic names in movie history in a new role as well.

THR is reporting that Elton John is in talks to join the spy comedy sequel, with no official word on who John could be playing, though it does briefly mention that he could be appearing as himself in the film, like Mark Hamill was originally intended to do in the first film. If the deal goes through, then the musician joins the returning Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, along with new additions Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, the previously mentioned Pascal, and more.

Set to begin production shortly in London as well, the film finds Eggsy and Merlin, who after the Kingsman HQ is bombed, must journey to the United States and work with their version of the organization to stop the efforts of Moore’s currently mysterious villain, Poppy.

John’s an iconic enough name, that I could imagine Vaughn and his co-writer Jane Goldman including him in the script for comedic purposes alone. Depending on who prominent of a role he could end up having though will be interesting, and he’s just one of a growing list of names that continue to make this sequel sound that much better than it already did.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set to hit theatres on June 16th, 2017.
