Disney has revealed (finally) the full primary cast for J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII.

Steven Spielberg will be reuniting with his E.T. writer Melissa Mathison on an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic, ‘The BFG’.

Paul Feig’s Melissa McCarthy/Jason Statham vehicle Spy has added Homeland’s Morena Baccarin, as well as the lovely (amazing) Allison Janney to its cast.

Michael Fassbender’s Macbeth director Justin Kurzel is in talks to reteam with the actor on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation.

O Brother Where Art Thou’s Tim Blake Nelson is in final talks to play Harvey Elder (Mole Man) in the Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot.

True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga has signed on to write and direct an adaptation of Tim Reiss’ Pulitzer Prize winner ‘The Black Count’ which tells the story of Alexandre Dumas’ own father.

Screenwriter Danny Strong will be making his directorial debut with a J.D. Salinger biopic based on Kenneth Slawenski’s ‘J.D. Salinger: A Life’.

The Will Ferrell-starring heist comedy The Yank has been picked up by TriStar.

Johnny Knoxville has been cast in the Jeremy Garelick-directed Sick Day for Universal, which has been described as an adult spin on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld has joined the cast of the Anna Kendrick/Rebel Wilson-starring, Elizabeth Banks-directed Pitch Perfect 2.

Disney’s Big Hero 6 has added SNL’s Maya Rudolph to its voice cast.

Television and Streaming


Although not terribly shocking (but still very upsetting), TV’s Craig Ferguson, a.k.a. Late Night’s best kept secret, will be retiring by the end of the calendar year.

Bored to Death’s Jonatham Ames and Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane will be teaming up with Starz for the Patrick Stewart-starring comedy series Blunt Talk.

HBO has chosen to revive both the Lisa Kudrow-starring The Comeback, as well as the Ben Affleck/Matt Damon-produced Project Greenlight.

SyFy has given the GO order on a third Sharknado film, prior to the second’s premier.

Fox has cancelled the Karl Urban-starring Almost Human.
