Fox’s ‘Gotham’ Casts Four More Roles, Including The Penguin

By February 11, 2014

FOX isn’t messing around when it comes to casting their upcoming Batman prequel show, “Gotham,” which is centered on the life of young James Gordon before he becomes the Commissioner and before Bruce Wayne becomes Batman.

Today Deadline reports that Robin Lord Taylor (“The Walking Dead”), Zabryna Guevara (“Burn Notice”), Sean Pertwee (“Camelot”, Fable III), and Erin Richards (“Breaking In”) will join “SouthLAnd” star Ben McKenzie, recently cast as James Gordon.

So who’s playing who? Well…

Guevara will take on the role of Captain Essen, Gordon’s boss in the GCPD Homicide Squad “who balances the worlds of police and politics;” Pertwee will play a younger version of Bruce Wayne’s beloved and trusted Alfred Pennyworth – who happens to be a “tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London”; and Erin Richards is Barbara Kean, ER doc and Gordon’s fiercely loyal fiancee.

Taylor (above) will play a young Oswald Cobblepot (a.k.a. The Penguin) – the brilliant yet low-level psychopath working for the dangerous gangster Fish Mooney. He’s kinda good looking, so here’s hoping they get someone with Greg Nicotero-level makeup skills to make him a little less “smooch-worthy.”

With the show being written by Bruno Heller (the creator of “The Mentalist”), and directed by Warner Bros. TV’s Danny Cannon – both will serve as executive producers – “Gotham” has some potential. It’ll be interesting to see how closely they stick to established storylines from the comics or if they veer off into their own territory and really make this series their own.

Stay tuned for more, because there are still a few other villains left to cast alongside a presumably important force on the series: the young Bruce Wayne himself. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more info about “Gotham,” but we want to hear what you think in the comments below. Are you excited about this show?

Ben McKenzie should be interesting, for sure

Interesting that Robin Lord Taylor looks a LOT like Emperor Penguin from the comic books

What an interesting choice on the timeline. Be interested to see where the before came from.
