Seems like it was just yesterday when Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming for General Electric turned NBC president Jack Donaghy made the executive decision to turn The Girlie Show into TGS with (mentally and intellectually unstable) Tracy Jordan, much to the chagrin of the show’s head writer, Liz Lemon and neurotic All About Eve-like star, Jenna Maroney.
Seven years later, some things have changed like Lemon finally getting married to boyfriend Criss (Jason Marsden) and adopting kids while other things, like Tracy and Jenna’s crazy hangups and half-baked attention grabbing schemes, have stayed quite the same.
Oh, and Jack was appointed CEO of Kabletown (company that bought NBC) and in last week’s Willy Wonka-inspired episode, promoted ever-loyal NBC page Kenneth Parcell to NBC president.
BTS still of NBC page-turned-president Kenneth (Jack McBrayer)
Did I also mention that the last thing outgoing Kabletown CEO Hank Hooper did was cancel TGS due to a false sexual harrassment lawsuit brought on by former crazy train page Hazel Wassername after being fired from the NBC Page program?
TGS writers and frienemies Frank (Judah Friedlander) and Toofer (Keith Powell)
All of the above story is fictional, of course…and tonight we will be saying goodbye to this crazy world known as NBC’s multiple award-winning show, 30 Rock.
In the one-hour series finale, “Last Lunch”, Liz (Fey) has difficulty adjusting to being a stay-at-home mom to her two adopted kids that look like Jenna and Tracy (which is apt, considering they’re two adults with the mentality of 10-year-olds); Jack (Alec Baldwin) takes stock of his life; Tracy (Tracy Morgan) struggles without constant attention from NBC page cum NBC president Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) can no longer cater to Tracy’s every whim while Jenna (Jane Krakowski) prepares an emotional farewell song (“LOOK AT ME!!” moment) as the cast and crew reunite for one final “TGS”.
Seems like Jack’s found religion…?
In this sneak peek, Tracy’s having a hard time accepting the fact that he’s lost his go-to guy (and when it comes to go-to guys, Kenneth was THE BEST) and isn’t happy when bodyguard and longtime friend Dot Com (Kevin Brown) has to “keep it real” with Tracy.
Yes, there will be some surprise appearances by former favorite guest stars but I don’t wanna spoil it TOO much for you (which is why I didn’t post any pics of who’s coming back). THAT SAID, I’ll be cool and give you this ONE looky-loo…
Law And Order:SVU stars Ice-T, Richard Belzer with Jenna (Jane Krakowski)…what’s happening here is anyone’s guess.
Even if you’re not a real big fan of 30 Rock, you’ll wanna tune in tonight as ice cream giants Ben and Jerry’s will be revealing a new flavor dedicated to this long-running sitcom!
I hope to all that is holy that it’s not Cheesy Blasters, haha. I’m guessing it’ll be lemon-something-or-other.
I’ll miss you, Lemon and Jack. I promised myself I wouldn’t cry…*sniff*
I’ll miss Lemon having to take meetings at the strip club to console, encourage, whatever with Tracy!
30 Rock finale “Last Lunch” airs tonight (Jan. 31) at 8 p.m. EST on NBC and I’ll have you ALL know that I passed on the opportunity to see tonight’s finale early so that I can share this experience with all of you. I can’t WAIT to see who’s gonna stop by!! I hope one of them’s Jon Hamm (Mad Men).
