Get Ready To Meet The “Real” Jarvis On ABC’s ‘Agent Carter’

By September 17, 2014

Ah, J.A.R.V.I.S.

In the Iron Man films, we know him as Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence system (a.k.a. butler/personal electronic valet/co-pilot). We know him, we love him, we (well, I) have his voice as our text message/voice mail alert on our smartphones. Only thing that hasn’t been revealed about him is his back story (in live-action, that is).

Until now.

Variety reports Cloud Atlas star James D’Arcy (above) has been added to the cast of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter” as Edwin Jarvis, butler to Howard and Maria Stark (and eventually their son Tony). Voiced by Paul Bettany in the Iron Man cinematic universe, D’Arcy will give us a human form to go with the voice that keeps Tony Stark in line in the charming way that only J.A.R.V.I.S. can.

But first, a quick refresher of the show’s synopsis:

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.

And now back to the news…

Jarvis has previously been seen in human (albeit animated) form in Marvel’s Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers II films (deftly voiced by Fred Tatasciore), but I’m so very excited to see a live-action version!

We’ll see what happens when “Marvel’s Agent Carter” premieres on ABC in January of next year. Until then, I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on this!
