‘Ghostbusters’ Director Paul Feig Responds To Internet Trolls

By September 24, 2015

When it was first announced that Paul Feig would be directing a reboot of Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the internet responded with the grace and sophistication you’ve come to expect. Basically it was just a whole lot of “Ew! Girl parts!” and whatnot. Reboot fatigue is one thing, but the reaction to this movie took things in a very unpleasant direction. Shame on you, internet.

Last night, director Paul Feig decided he’d had enough. Or perhaps he had too much, given that he’s apparently on vacation and was a little buzzed. Either way, he took to Twitter to respond to some of the more vocal idiots and, well, it was awesome. Check it out below.

This one is dead out of the gate for reasons that have nothing to do with gender: people hate it now–and will hate it even more after it comes out–because they went and fucked with an iconic movie. When will Hollywood–or at least the geniuses who are absolutely certain a reboot will be a *supreme* success–get it through their heads that there are certain movies that not only don’t need a re-boot right now, but should never, under any circumstances be rebooted. Stripes, Meatballs, Caddyshack, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Porky’s, anything in the Dirty Harry franchise, Raiders of the Lost Ark (oh wait, they’re already set out to fuck that one up), Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (oh, wait, they already *did* fuck that up), Star Wars Episode IV, The Big Lebowski, Jaws, The Wizard of Oz, Blade Runner, Back to the Future, A Christmas Story, This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, The Terminator, Alien, Casablanca, Apocalypse Now, M.A.S.H., Enter the Dragon, and **especially** Ghost Busters. So, Mr. Feig, you should prepare yourself for the inevitable and quit trying to blame the impending failure on sexism.

The world exists outside of the internet. This movie would be successful just because of the name recognition, but with Paul Feig at the helm, it will most likely be a great ode to the original movies.

Reboots are for directors with minimal talent and zero creative ability to come up with an original idea… Paul Feig. Wont be watch anything the little diva is involved with especially this movie.

Paul Feig is extremely talented. Freaks & Geeks alone is enough to prove his talent, but then he went on to make even more awesome stuff.

I can’t wait for this movie to be awesome so all the trolls will crawl back under their bridge with boxes of Kleenex to wipe away their tears.
