Hugh Jackman Says Who He Thinks Should Replace Him as Wolverine

By September 24, 2015

There’s no denying it at this point – Hugh Jackman owns the onscreen version of Wolverine. After fans were outraged by his initial casting all those years ago, the Australian actor has managed to blow away everyones’ expectations in the movies that followed. It seems like the farther into his iteration of the character he gets too, the deeper and deeper his onscreen version becomes, and he’s gradually created one of the best onscreen portrayals of any superhero ever.

With only one more film as the character left though, Jackman has gone all out in terms of involving the fans in his farewell, even going as far as taking ideas and submissions from social media. However, the closer and closer we get to his eventual departure, the more discussions about his possible replacements begin.

During a recent interview with MTV though, Jackman was asked which young actor in the industry right now he’d like to see take over for him as the iconic character moving forward. Hear his choice in the video below:

It’s not hard to see Hardy in the role, and out of all of the other well-known actors right now, he’d probably be one of the few who might be able to step in after Jackman’s incredible run as the character, and be able to live up to his predecessor. He has the right build and physicality for Wolverine as well, but it’ll be interesting to see if he’d even be open to joining the Marvel universe, considering he’s usually shown a fondness for the DC world and comics.

It’s clear though that whether Fox picks an established movie star to take over for Jackman, or an unknown up and comer, the actor is going to have some big shoes to fill in order to stand out. With his character being absent from next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse too, it looks like Fox is taking their time in saying goodbye to this version of the character. Can we blame them?

The Wolverine 2 is set to hit theatres on March 3rd, 2017.
