‘Injustice 2’ Announcement Trailer Finds the DC Universe at War

By June 8, 2016

In 2013, Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios gave comic book fans the opportunity to pit their favorite DC characters against each other with Injustice: Gods Among Us, a 2D brawler set in an alternate timeline where Superman establishes a new world order, and Batman must recruit members of the Justice League to bring down his former ally.

Officially announced this morning, Injustice 2 will continue the storyline from the first game, with Batman and his allies working together to rebuild society while others plot to restore the Superman regime. You can check out the first teaser trailer for the game below.

The armored suits featured in this clip are a new addition, and the official press release for Injustice 2 confirms that players will be able to personalize each character using gear acquired throughout the course of the game. No word yet on how deep this customization system will run, but the idea of decking out The Dark Knight with an array of badass-looking armor and gadgets definitely has my attention. NetherRealm creative director Ed Boon promises plenty of new features to freshen up the fighting game formula:

“In Injustice 2, we are introducing new features that will change the way fans play fighting games. We’re always interested in pushing the genre forward and allowing players to customize and level-up their favorite DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains is a significant leap.”

Fans can also look forward to the biggest roster of DC characters ever featured in a fighting game. The teaser trailer showcases Superman, The Flash, Batman, Aquaman and Supergirl, but the game will also include new villains such as Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. And to celebrate the announcement, fans who play the hugely popular Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game can unlock the Injustice 2 versions of Superman and Aquaman by completing in-game challenge modes.

Injustice 2 will be released on Playstation 4 and Xbox One in 2017.
