Jason Isaacs Named ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Captain

By March 7, 2017

Although he isn’t exactly the star of the series, Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs has joined the ranks of William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew as captains of title ships, as he’s set to take on Star Trek: Discovery as the captain of the USS Discovery.

Isaacs will play Capt. Lorca, the commanding officer to Lt. Cmdr. Rainsford, played by The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green. Not much else is known about his character, except that he was joined in the CBS cast announcement by Mary Wiseman, who plays a Starfleet Academy cadet in her final year of study, assigned to the Discovery.

Isaacs is probably best known for his role as villain Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, as well as his Golden Globe-nominated role in The State Within.

More recently he played Dr. “Hap” Percy in the Netflix series The OA, and has finished a number of film projects recently that include London FieldsBehind the Glass with Mira Sorvino, the animated film Happy FamilyThe Death of Stalin and Hotel Mumbai with Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel and Armie Hammer.

Wiseman is an up-and-coming actress who recently graduated from Juilliard. She had a recurring role in Longmire and most recently appeared in the FX series Baskets.

Filming on Discovery began last month in Toronto, and is set to debut on the subscription-based streaming service CBS All Access. Although the show was set to debut in January, it was later moved to May, and is now expected to debut in the fall.

The series also stars Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp and James Frain.
