‘Luke Cage’ Trailer Promises Yet Another Refreshing New Take on the Superhero Genre

By July 22, 2016

In anticipation of the series premiere in just a few short months and in conjuction with its Marvel TV panel, the very first official trailer for Luke Cage has been released, following that tiny teaser at the end Daredevil season two. For those of you that wanted more from Mike Colter’s Cage in Jessica Jones as well, it’s looking like this is going to be just what you wanted, and probably a little bit more too.

The new trailer gives a brief teaser of some of the characters in the show, including some of the family members and supporting players surrounding Cage in the series, which from this trailer alone already looks wildly, refreshingly different from the previous two Marvel and Netflix shows.

Check out the trailer below:

Here’s the series’ official synopsis as well:

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

With the music choice and its own version of a hallway fight scene (if you could even call it that), Luke Cage already looks to have a similar aesthetic to all of the other Defenders series and Marvel’s entire street-level superhero sub-genre, but has its own vibe and tone as well. Honestly, Marvel and Netflix haven’t really led us astray yet with these shows, and following his subtle but solid introduction in Jessica Jones last year, neither you or I have any reason really to doubt that they’ll do that here.

Season one of Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix on September 31st.
