Mackenzie Davis Comments on Those ‘Deadpool 2’ Domino Casting Reports

By August 26, 2016

A few weeks ago, some rumors started circling around online that Twentieth Century Fox was not only eyeing Kyle Chandler to play Cable in the highly-anticipated Deadpool sequel, but that they were also looking at Halt & Catch Fire star Mackenzie Davis to play Domino in the film also, a character previously rumored to be making her introduction into the X-Men universe.

It looks like one of those casting rumors may not be true any more though, if these latest comments from Davis are to be taken with sincerity, or if they’re just her deflecting for obvious, NDA-related reasons.

Speaking with GQ, Davis said the following when asked if there was any truth to the Domino rumors:

“No! [laughs] It’s very interesting. This is so cool!’ And I’m like, ‘Right? I also think it’s cool! But it’s not true! I mean. I’d love to keep the ruse going. It’s sort of cool that people think I’m doing Deadpool. But no! I don’t have any news to share. I wish I did!”

She did however talk briefly about what it’s been like working on Blade Runner 2 so far, even revealing who she’s shot scenes with:

“It’s a whole rarefied world of talented people that I am extremely geeked to be in the presence of. I’ve only shot with Ryan [Gosling] and Ana de Armas, but Ana is lovely, Ryan is kind and cool, and Denis Villeneuve, the director, is truly a special human being.”

We were fans of Davis playing Domino from the moment that the rumor first came out, not only because of her work on Halt & Catch Fire, but also in films like The Martian, What If, and more. She’s been establishing herself as an actress to watch out for for years now though, and the possibility of her landing one of these highly-coveted superhero roles doesn’t seem that far off at this point. Whether it ends up being Domino, or someone else.

Deadpool 2 does not currently have a release date.
