Margot Robbie and Charlie Hunnam May Climb ‘The Mountain Between Us’

By September 4, 2014

Margot Robbie and Charlie Hunnam have some serious heat right now. Hunnam, the Pacific Rim and “Sons of Anarchy” star who bailed on Fifty Shades of Grey, has been lighting up the casting boards lately with possible roles in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur film and the Escape From New York remake. And just this morning, we wrote about how The Wolf of Wall Street breakout Margot Robbie is in talks to star in a Ghost in the Shell film for DreamWorks, along with movies like Tarzan, Focus, and Z for Zachariah.

Now the two may be joining forces in a new movie called The Mountain Between Us. Deadline reports that they’re in talks to star in the new film, which is based on Charles Martin’s novel, and it sounds like there’s plenty of action, drama, and romance in this script. Take it away, Deadline:

Ashley is a writer catching a flight from Salt Lake City and heading East for her wedding. Ben is a doctor returning from a medical conference. When their flight is cancelled due to a broken de-icer, the strangers agree to charter a ride, only to see the pilot suffer a heart attack and crash into a desolate snowy mountain region. He breaks ribs and she suffers a leg fracture. Fortunately, aside from a doctor he’s an avid climber, and as he struggles to get her down from the mountain in harsh weather, she begins to realize that maybe she was headed to marry the wrong guy.

So the whole “realizing she may be marrying the wrong guy” thing seems like a bit of a cliche, but it’s also a tried and true formula that’s worked well on screen for decades. And the mountain climbing angle could provide some cool set pieces, so we have that to look forward to. Hany Abu-Assad will direct from a screenplay by J. Mills Goodloe and Scott Frank.

What do you think? Are Hunnam and Robbie a good fit for this project?

  • The script description here would be enough to get me to watch it! Drama, romance, and action always makes for a good movie. While I’m not as familiar with Robbie and Hunnam, I’ll watch anyone if the movie sounds good.
