After releasing the episode’s official synopsis just recently, which confirmed the introduction of Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) along with other things (we’ll get to those soon), the CW has officially revealed some new photos from next week’s highly-anticipated midseason finale of The Flash, following this week’s crossover with Arrow.
The episode titled, “Running to Stand Still,” will also feature the return of several important villains in the show’s history, including Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Liam McIntyre’s Weather Wizard, and Mark Hamill’s Trickster. With these three villains teaming up to try and wreak as much havoc in Central City as they can, it doesn’t look like Barry’s going to have an easy Christmas this year.
You can check out all of the images below:
Here’s the episode’s official synopsis as well:
“When Mark Mardon AKA The Weather Wizard (guest star Liam McIntyre) returns to break Leonard Snart AKA Captain Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller) and James Jesse AKA The Trickster (guest star Mark Hamill) out of Iron Heights, Barry must stop these rogues from taking over Central City during Christmas. Meanwhile, Joe and Iris meet Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale).”
After the season debuted to a bit of a rocky start initially, The Flash has been back in top form over the past few weeks, and going off of how much last year’s midseason finale changed the entire dynamic of the series, I can only imagine what the writers have planned this time around. Using the Christmas setting as a backdrop should help to bring a certain levity and melancholy to the drama as well, and I can’t imagine a better team of Grinches for Barry to face than The Trickster, Captain Cold, and Weather Wizard.
There”s really not much to say about Wally’s introduction from the photos, although this is our first look at Lonsdale in the role. There’s still no word on what the plan is regarding his speedster abilities from the comics, if he’ll already be a meta-human by the time we meet him, or the writers will be making him one sometime down the line. Considering all the storylines that the show is developing currently though, the introduction of yet another major comic book character to its roster could mean big things for Barry and the S.T.A.R. labs crew. Judging by Joe’s reaction in one of the above images too, it looks like this is one Christmas surprise he won’t be expecting.
Also, I don’t know what’s going on with Barry and Iris in some of these images, but you better not break Patty’s heart Barry. I mean it.
The Flash midseason finale will premiere Tuesday, December 8th on the CW.
