Marvel May Be Developing a ‘Captain Britain’ TV Series

By March 22, 2016

Well, this one kind of came out of nowhere.

After successfully bringing D-list characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy or even Ant-Man into the forefront of the public consciousness, Marvel could make a Squirrel Girl movie at this point, and I’d have faith in whatever direction they decided to take it. We thought when they successfully adapted a movie about a Norse god with a magic hammer they had succeeded, but we hadn’t seen anything yet.

It looks like the studio could be considering a new TV adaptation as well, that’s certainly out of left field, but isn’t that hard to imagine altogether.

Apparently, Marvel may be developing a Captain Britain TV series focusing on the comic book character created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe. The news was started by Ciara McAvoy (H/T Collider), a famed poster artist known for her work on Revenge of the Sith, X-Men: First Class, and more, who tweeted out about an upcoming TV series for the character.

Check out the tweets below:

Originally created to be the British equivalent of Steve Rogers/Captain America, the character received his powers thanks to the magic of Merlyn, who is tasked with upholding the laws of Britain.

Now, obviously this should be treated as nothing more than a rumor, but with that being said, a Captain Britain TV series would be an interesting and unique addition to Marvel’s current properties, both currently on the air and in development. It’d have a much more whimsical, magic-influenced tone that of Marvel’s Netflix or ABC shows, but with the comedic Damage Control already in the works, is it possible that Marvel could be looking to adapt even more lesser known characters moving forwards? Almost certainly. We’ll just have to wait and see if Captain Britain ends up being one of them though.

The Captain Britain TV series may or may not be in the works.
