Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist’ Casts Its Colleen Wing

By April 1, 2016

After casting Game of Thrones star Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist in the character’s upcoming Defenders series from Marvel and Netflix, their Hell’s Kitchen heroes have officially been completed, for now at least. Like with the others though, new casting information for Iron Fist is beginning to surface online, and it looks like the fourth and final series in the first phase of their Defenders universe, has officially found its female lead.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that fellow Game of Thrones alum, Jessica Henwick, has reportedly nabbed the role in the new series as comic book character Colleen Wing, who made her debut in 1974 as the daughter of a college professor that was raised in Japan and trained in the ways of the samurai. She acts as an invaluable ally to Iron Fist in the comics, and also happens to be a close friend of Misty Knight as well, who will be played by Simone Missick in Netflix’s Luke Cage series.

There’s no word on who else might be appearing in the series as of yet, or if Misty and Colleen will cross paths any time before Defenders, but other supporting Iron Fist characters rumored to be joining the series include Joy Meachum, Ward Meachum, and Davos. Scott Buck will serve as showrunner on the series, with no release date announced as of yet, though late 2016 or sometime in 2017 are the most likely release windows.

Though they both starred in the same series, Jones and Henwick’s characters never crossed paths in Thrones, with him mostly residing in the Westeros area of the story, and her acting as one of the controversial Sand Snakes of Dorne last year. After already planting seeds for the Iron Fist series through characters and Easter Eggs in the previous series though, Marvel seems more than ready to pull the trigger on their last Defenders standalone series. Here’s to hoping they hit the target yet again.

Marvel’s Iron Fist is currently in development.
