Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass Reuniting for ‘Bourne 5’

By September 15, 2014

Wow. So the rumors were true. Back in June, Latino-Review reported (and we covered) a story that indicated that Matt Damon would be coming back to star in another Bourne film for Universal. At the time, I wasn’t sure if this would happen – Damon has said over and over again that the only way he’d come back is if director Paul Greengrass was behind the camera, and at that point director Justin Lin had been set to helm a follow-up to The Bourne Legacy. But according to Deadline, the studio has found a way to make it all work out for them.

Greengrass will reportedly come back to direct Damon, and this project is said to jump ahead of Justin Lin’s Legacy sequel, so unless he and Renner join forces in this film, it looks like the planned spin-off sequel will have to wait a few more years. Universal was disappointed with the overall box office haul of Legacy, and I’m sure they’re thrilled to have their A team back in the saddle again, but the report says that they’re not cancelling the Legacy spin-off entirely because the studio wants to continue to expand its franchise base.

Matt Damon

Damon and Greengrass’ return has been rumored for a long time, and though the deals aren’t done yet, it seems like this is actually going to happen – and quickly, too. The untitled Bourne movie will take the date reserved for the Legacy sequel, meaning as long as the ink dries on the contracts, we’ll see a Greengrass-helmed, Damon-starring Bourne movie again on July 16, 2016.

What do you think? Looking forward to seeing Damon make his return to the character, or is the ending of Ultimatum so perfect that they should it end there?
