MTV Goes Full On Fantasy In This Latest Trailer For ‘The Shannara Chronicles’

By October 12, 2015

Oh, boy, it looks like MTV has come to play. The network unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming series The Shannara Chronicles at NYCC, and it’s so full of elves, gnomes, trolls and the like that I wasn’t sure I wasn’t looking at a different version of Middle Earth. Check it out here, courtesy of MTV:

Here’s the official synopsis for the series:

“Coming to MTV in January 2016, ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ is a new TV series based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Terry Brooks. Set thousands of years after the destruction of our civilization, the story follows an Elven Princess, Amberle, a half-human half-elf, Wil, and a human, Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop a Demon army from destroying the Four Lands.”

Now, I’ve never read the books, but I know they are hugely popular, so I have no idea if this is anywhere close to a faithful adaptation. I will say, though, this looks mighty impressive. High fantasy of epic proportions and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I’m getting tired of the dark and gritty, more grounded thing that the powers that be have going on these days. Give me an elf fighting a monster with a bow and a short sword and I am happy, happy happy.

Did I mention that the cast looks great too? And by that I mostly mean Manu Bennett, with a little John Rhys-Davies on the side. It’s enough to get me to tune in at least once to see if it’s worth the hype.

The Shannara Chronicles will premiere on MTV on January 5th, 2016.
