If you’ve yet to see this British phenomenon, now’s the time to catch up! The saga of the Time Lord and his companions continues this fall in the show’s seventh series. If you don’t have time to see everything before the new series begins, here’s an episode guide for a crash course in Doctor Who.

Rose (1×01)

Though it is the continuation of an older show that ended in 1989, the first episode of the Doctor Who reboot expertly guides new viewers into the world of Who; no previous knowledge necessary. Along with new companion Rose Tyler, the viewer gets sucked into the exciting chaos that inevitably follows the Doctor.

Bad Wolf/The Parting of The Ways (1×12 and 1×13)

This two parter concludes the first series and the tenure of the Ninth Doctor. You’ll need to see this one to understand regeneration, and if that’s not enough, its foray into the world of futuristic reality TV is quite entertaining.

The Christmas Invasion (2×01)

A new Doctor trying to find his footing, the return of Rose’s family and friends, and a great pop culture reference are all good reasons to watch this fantastic Christmas Special!

Blink (3×11)

This episode is a rarity, for it focuses on neither the Doctor nor his companion. It is one of the most creative episodes of the new series, and introduces the viewer to a frightening new villain: the Weeping Angels.

The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End (4×13 and 4×14)

The Doctor’s past companions return to help him save the Earth in this action-packed and heart-breaking two parter. You’ll want to go back later to fill in the blanks, but it’s a great way to get a feel for both the Tenth Doctor’s companions and his ongoing turmoil.

The Eleventh Hour (5×01)

A freshly regenerated Eleventh Doctor meets new companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams. These three form the heart of the show as it stands right now, so you’ll want to get to know them all!

The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone (5×04 and 5×05)

The return of the Weeping Angels and the enigmatic River Song. The Weeping Angels have a vital role to play in the upcoming series, so you’ll want to soak in as much about them as you can!

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon (6×01 and 6×02)

A season-long arc begins as a terrible tragedy befalls the group and a new villain known as ‘the Silence’ is introduced. You won’t understand the sixth series if you miss this two parter.

A Good Man Goes To War (6×07)

This episode is fraught with drama and big reveals, as we learn more about the Silence and the true origins of River Song.

The Wedding Of River Song (6×13)

The series six finale answers a lot of the season’s questions…but leaves the door wide open with a promise to tackle the show’s ultimate mystery: Doctor Who?
