Nathan Fillion’s Role in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Revealed

By April 25, 2016

For those of you that were paying close attention during Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, you noticed that Firefly star Nathan Fillion had a brief role in the film as the blue inmate in the Kyln with Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians. Looks like he’ll be returning for the sequel as well though, this time in a much cooler and even funnier manner.

Warning: Minor spoilers to follow…

Thanks to some sly new set photos from Vol. 2 it has been revealed that Fillion will be playing none other than Simon Williams in the film, a.k.a. Wonder Man, who in the comics is a former criminal with the iconic energy-based powers of super strength, flight, speed, and durability, that later joins the Avengers before retiring years later to become an actor.

The set photos are from outside of an Earth-based movie theatre, which touts several movie posters with Fillion’s face on them, including a romantic comedy called Oh, Rebecca! and even a Tony Stark biopic reminiscent of Steve Jobs last year, with Fillion posing as Stark. Which also places this close to present day on Earth, meaning it’s not a flashback. We think.

What’s even more exciting though, is the marquee outside the theatre promoting it as a Simon Williams film festival – confirming Fillion as the beloved comic book character in the film. Check out the photo slideshow below:

It’s unclear how large of a role Fillion will have in the film, if it will just be a movie poster cameo or more. However, even the possibility of him showing up as the superpowered Wonder Man in one of the future MCU films is enough to get me excited. Not to mention the fact that it looks like Vol. 2 will be traveling back to Earth at one point during it’s story.

Is it possible that the Guardians run into any of the other Marvel characters while there? Assuming of course, that it is the Guardians on Earth and not another character in film. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theatres on May 5th, 2017.
