Netflix Orders New Sketch Comedy Series from Bob Odenkirk & David Cross

By April 2, 2015

After making audiences crack up on HBO with “Mr. Show with Bob & David,” comedy stars Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are heading to Netflix for more hilarity.

Deadline reports that Odenkirk and Cross are teaming for a new sketch comedy series that has been picked up by Netflix. It’s not exactly a “Mr. Show” reunion, but it just so happens that the series is titled “With Bob and David.” However, don’t expect a long season, because this order consists of four half-hour episodes and an hour-long “making of” special. Yeah, we’re not entirely sure what that last part means, either.

The new series is in production now with Odenkirk and Cross listed as the only regulars, however, this photo from December by comedian Paul F. Tompkins:

There’s no guarantee that this is the project these guys were gathered for, but it just makes sense. Surely there will be plenty of comedy friends stopping by for bit parts on the show. If you’re curious what to expect from this new series, here’s how they described it to Deadline:

After being dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEAL, Bob and David are back serving our country the way they do best: making sketch comedy. Four half-hours of brand-new comedy featuring all new characters, all new scenes and, most importantly, all new wigs.

That sounds about right. Odenkirk struck it big recently with his own show on AMC, the “Breaking Bad” spin-off “Better Call Saul,” and Cross already had a good relationship with Netflix since that’s the new home of “Arrested Development.” It’s awesome to see Netflix taking a chance on a less conventional comedy series like this, especially from Odenkirk and Cross. No word on when it’ll premiere on the streaming service, but we’ll keep you posted.
