I may be a Star Wars girl-at-heart but this latest viral clip from Star Trek Into Darkness (titled Disruption) has me all a quiver.
In the clip, we hear the incredibly menacing voice of “One man weapon of mass destruction (and new resident bad guy)” John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch) vowing that shiz is about to get REALLY real for our beloved Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and the voyagers of the Starship Enterprise.
“James Tiberius Kirk … the heart of the Enterprise, the overly confident leader, fueled by bravado…”
Now if it seems like the trailers and clips from ST: Into Darkness look like “The John Harrison Show”, there’s a very good reason for that; one of the film’s writers Alex Kurtzman says that “Sequels are about the bad guy. In a second movie, the reason the bad guy is so important is because he tests them, and that is always the joy of the best sequels, ” and as Kirk “has never sent men and women to their deaths before, so what’s going to happen when that kind of question comes up for him?”
Director J.J. Abrams told Total Film in a recent interview that the difference between Nero (Eric Bana) in the first Star Trek film and Starfleet employee gone wrong, Harrison is that while “[Nero] was just a raging, vengeful lunatic. All he wanted to do was destroy Vulcan, Earth and the Federation… He had backstory, but was kind of irrational. The beauty of Benedict’s [John Harrison] is that he’s completely rational. He’s someone that you can have conversations with. You couldn’t sit down and talk to Nero – he’d bite your head off!”
Star Chris Pine also hinted at the evil levels of Harrison. “I’d say the threat is even greater in this one. The force [the crew] are met with is much more frightening,” while Benedict Cumberbatch himself calls Harrison “the mirroring of Kirk.”
Don’t know about you but I’m scared…and admittedly a little turned on as well. Sexy bad guys threatening to wipe out our very existence (on film ONLY) are sexy.
With Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, John Cho, Karl Urban, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Simon Pegg also reporting for duty, there’s really no where for this film to go but up.
Star Trek Into Darkness is set for release this May 17th and if you trust me at all, you should totes go.
Don’t know about you but I gots chills…they’re multiplyin’.
