Paramount Reveals Release Dates For Upcoming ‘Terminator’ Films

By September 6, 2014

In case you were wondering, Paramount does indeed have plans to stretch out the Terminator franchise until the possibility of Skynet taking over becomes a reality.

We aren’t even close to the July 2015 release date for Terminator: Genisys, but Paramount has seen fit to let the world know that yes, there will be follow-up films and they have already set their target release dates.

Deadline reports that Paramount has set the new T2 release date for May 19, 2017 (two weeks after one of the Marvel films and a week before WB’s sequel to The LEGO Movie) with part 3 opening on June 29, 2018 (against a DreamWorks animated film and a week before yet another Marvel film).

In case you’ve forgotten (like I have), here’s the synopsis for Terminator: Genisys:

[The movie ]sees an aging T-800 unit (who’s trapped in the past) thrown back into action. Now joined by John Connor and his father Kyle Reese, they must fight to protect the woman who started it all. In order to save the future, he must first rewrite the past.

With Schwarzenegger reprising his role as said Terminator unit, Emilia Clarke becoming the second “Game of Thrones” star to step into the role of Sarah Connor (Lena Headey played her in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), Jai Courtney (“Spartacus”) as Kyle Reese, and Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the ApesZero Dark Thirty) as their son, John Connor, I must admit – I am thoroughly confused as to what the hell is gonna happen.

The main question I have is…at 67, are Schwarzenegger’s knees gonna hold out for three more films or is this his swan song? I’m guessing Paramount will use this film to introduce a new Terminator unit for parts 2 and 3, but it would be kinda funny if the sequels featured the T-800 taking advantage of the “early bird special” at Jiffy Lube or sitting on a porch with a blanket over his knees warning kids to “Get off my lawn” in that accent that’s been imitated MILLIONS of times over around the world.

Terminator: Genisys opens July 1, 2015.

  • Truly! At 67, I cannot see Schwarzenegger pulling off the Terminator quite as effectively anymore. I did however really enjoy one of his other more recent films, ‘Last Stand’. Was an excellent Action Comedy that we’ve watched several times. Schwarzenegger may still have some films left in him, just maybe not Terminator style!
