Patrick Stewart Spotted in ‘Wolverine 3’ Set Photos

By June 10, 2016

Last month, when producer Simon Kinberg confirmed that Wolverine 3 had already begun filming, and would be rated R, he refused to acknowledge Patrick Stewart’s involvement in the film. Much like the revelation that Benedict Cumberbatch was Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, or that Christoph Waltz was portraying Blofeld in Spectre, this has quickly become one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood, and the studio’s repeated attempts to play coy are becoming a bit ridiculous.

But that’s okay, we don’t really need confirmation from them at this point – the eagle-eyed photographers at Just Jared have been hanging around the New Orleans set of Wolverine 3, and a new batch of photos reveal Stewart shooting several scenes with headlining star Hugh Jackman. You can check out a handful of the snaps below.

Jackman’s unkempt, grey-streaked beard seems to confirm rumors that the film will take place several years in the future, possibly as a loose adaptation of the Old Man Logan story from the comics. And curiously enough, these photos show us that Stewart’s typically smooth-shaven pate is covered with wispy hairs, and he has a few days’ growth of beard on his face. Reports from the set indicate that the duo were shooting a scene which found Logan and Professor Xavier racing out of a casino and into a waiting truck – perhaps at this point in the film, they’ve been hiding out waiting for an opportunity to escape.

No word on the name of the young actress in these photos, or how she’ll factor into the overall story. You can visit Just Jared to see the full gallery, although it mostly consists of alternate angles of these same images.

There have been varying reports about which villains Wolverine will be up against, with The Reavers and Weapon X mentioned as the most likely candidates. The latter makes a lot of sense, particularly when considering the post-credits scene at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse, but then again this franchise rarely seems concerned with adhering to established continuity.

Wolverine 3 is scheduled to open on March 3, 2017.
