‘Preacher’ Casts Jackie Earle Haley as New Villain

By February 9, 2016

One of comic’s creepiest characters is coming to the small screen.

Co-created by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, AMC’s Preacher adaptation is on its way to becoming one of the can’t-miss TV shows from the looks of it. After rounding out an incredible cast including Dominic Cooper as the show’s lead, Ruth Negga, and Joseph Gilgun though, the series has just added a very talented actor to its cast. Only catch? He’s going to be playing a very, very strange character. Prepare yourselves.

THR is reporting that Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley has signed on to play Odin Quincannon in the TV series, which is an adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comic of the same name. Those of you familiar with the character probably just had your mouths drop open a little bit, but for those of you not, here’s the deal with Odin…

The casting report describes Earle Haley’s role as the following:

“A small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business.”

Pretty simple, right? Well, that’s not all you see because Quincannon also happens to be a member of the KKK and was found having sex with a mannequin made out of meat at one point in the comics, after a battle between himself and Jesse Custer.

The word on the street right now is that Preacher is one of the most unique comic book adaptations yet, with some of the most brutal, violent action featured throughout as well. This isn’t the first time that a controversial villain has been announced for the series either after Arseface was added to the cast, but Odin is a bit of a different animal here. I look forward to seeing how Rogen, Goldberg, and their creative team are be planning on incorporating Quincannon’s story and character into the series though.

Seeing Jackie Earle Haley having sex with a meat mannequin might not be the strangest thing I’ve seen on TV over the past few years (I did watch Hannibal after all), but it’d definitely be up there, and I’d definitely feel the need to take a deep shower afterwards.

Preacher will premiere on AMC this Spring.
