Rosario Dawson Joins Cast of ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’

By June 20, 2014

Good news, everyone! BAMF (Bad Ass Mega-Female) Rosario Dawson has signed on for the upcoming and highly anticipated Netflix original series, “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the character (and skipped the 2004 Ben Affleck film), Daredevil centers on Matt Murdock, a kid from Hell’s Kitchen who is blinded when a passing truck carrying radioactive material splashes him but heightens his other senses. When his father, a boxer, was killed by gangsters after failing to throw a fight, Daredevil was born. Murdock spend his days pulling double duty: Hell’s Kitchen lawyer by day, Daredevil by night.

Straight from the horse’s mouth, made the announcement earlier today, saying that Dawson will join “Boardwalk Empire” star Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock) and Men in Black star Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) as “a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.”

Marvel’s Head of Television, the TV, movie and comic book writing LEGEND Jeph Loeb (“Smallville,” “Lost,” Teen Wolf, Daredevil: Yellow series) is over the moon at this news:

Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for ‘Marvel’s Daredevil.’ Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil.

Marvel’s first original series for Netflix is in good hands as Loeb will also produce with Steven S. DeKnight (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”) sitting as showrunner and producer alongside fellow producer Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods).

As you can see, there’s no official word on exactly who Dawson will play in the show, but I’ve seen some speculation that she could be the new Elektra. Regardless of who she turns out to be playing, I for one am SUPER excited! How about you?

  • It’ll be interesting to see who she’ll end up playing. Dawson is a total badass, though, so it almost doesn’t matter. Great “get” for Marvel.
