RUMOR CENTRAL: Is Sylvester Stallone in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’?

By March 5, 2016

Ok, kids. Strap yourselves in for some potential awesomeness. The interwebz are a-flutter with a pretty amazing rumor that, should it prove to be true, will make us all very happy people.

According to a report from the NY Daily News, none other than Sylvester Stallone has been spotted in Atlanta, GA near (and possibly heading to) the set of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The report states:

Stallone, 69, was spotted leaving an Atlanta hotel where the movie’s cast stays, a source told the Daily News. “The Creed” star then got into a car usually assigned to Chris Pratt, the star of the movie.

Marvel has not confirmed whether or not Sly has been cast in the film, nor do we have any clue as to what character he would be playing. And, again, this is just a rumor, so grain of salt and whatnot.

I mean…

Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?! Hell freaking yes! We all want this to happen, right? Of course we do. Not only would it be cool just to have Sly in the movie, this could also lead to an onscreen reunion with his Tango & Cash co-star Kurt Russell, who we already know is definitely in the movie and playing…somebody. Maybe Peter Quill’s dad. Probably Peter Quill’s dad. Please let Kurt Russell play Peter Quill’s dad.

So who could Stallone play? Given the cosmic scope of the Guardians, er, galaxy, there are a multitude of possibilities. Hell, HE could be playing Quill’s dad and Kurt Russell could be someone completely different. Who knows? But let’s just assume that Russell is playing who we think he’s playing. What role(s) could Stallone play? One Marvel character immediately came to mind when I read this news, so I’ll tell you who I’m hoping for:

Gladiator. I want Stallone to play freaking Gladiator in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Tell me that wouldn’t be the most awesome thing ever. Make it happen, James Gunn. Pretty please.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 comes out May 5, 2017.
