Snatch The Pearls And Start Your Engines: RuPaul’s Drag Con Is Coming To Los Angeles!

By May 13, 2015

Ah, the fabulous RuPaul. For those of us fortunate enough to remember, Miss Ru’s been ruling the runway since the 80s and blew up with her hit “Supermodel (You Better Work).”

Throughout the years, RuPaul has had numerous acting roles in both film and TV as well as continuously releasing albums, launched a makeup line and perfume line, writing a book here and there, podcasting, and of course,  “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Essentially an “American Idol” for both established and up-and-coming drag queens with a lot of talent, a WHOLE lot of shade, and I was addicted from day one.

And now, Miss Ru is launching the FIRST EVER convention dedicated to the wonderous world of drag right here at the Los Angeles Convention Center THIS WEEKEND (May 16th and 17th), thanks to a collaboration between Ru and World of Wonder (co-creators/producers of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”) co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey. And the excitement from all involved is palpable, especially from RuPaul!

“I am thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind event to Los Angeles. DragCon is not just a showcase for the most talented drag queens in the world. It’s a chance for all lovers of drag culture – young and old, gay and straight – to come together, to inspire each other, and to let their freak flags fly high.”

Fenton and Barbato agree. “The arrival of DragCon is inevitable! The passion and momentum that surrounds the art of drag is truly unstoppable.”

Billed as a “mash of Comic Con, BeautyCon and Hello Kitty Con,” RuPaul’s Drag Con celebrates “the art of drag, queer culture and self-expression for all,” with over 100 vendors/exhibitors, panels, screenings AND photo ops/signing tables with some of your favorite drag queens and gay icons!

Fun panels and programming include:

There will also be Q&A sessions with the queens themselves, as well as fashion, make-up and styling workshops (“She-crets of a Drag Queen”) for men and women, AND you’ll be able to shop to your heart’s desire for shoes, clothes, art, AND MORE!

And if THAT weren’t enough, check out this SICKENING list of celebrities scheduled to appear!
