‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Set Photos Reveal First Looks at New Characters

By June 21, 2016

As production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has come to an end in Atlanta, shooting on Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming has officially begun, with several of the cast members already spotted on set and even Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland, taking to Instagram to announce the start of principal photography on the highly-anticipated new film.

Following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year, Homecoming is said to not only focus on Peter in his high school days (with a perfect title to match), but will also follow Peter as he struggles to find his own home again. Compared to a 1980s coming-of-age movie from directors like John Hughes, it’s shaping up to be one of Marvel’s possibly most human films to date.

The first set photos from the movie come via JustJared as well, and not only feature our first looks at Holland’s Peter Parker in costume on set, but also his fellow cast members including Zendaya and Tony Revolori, both of whom are playing currently unknown roles.

All of the characters here are not only dressed realistically for high school kids, but Peter legitimately looks like a nerd here, and not in the cool way like Andrew Garfield or the stereotypical way like Tobey Maguire, but he looks like the actual nerds that I was friends with in school. After what we saw in Civil War too, which gave us more of Spider-Man and only brief glimpses into Peter Parker’s actual life, it’s nice to see some small first glimpses into the new film here.

Already, Homecoming is shaping up to be a return-to-form for the Spider-Man character in some very big ways, and it might just be one of the most unique comic book films that we’ve seen to date as well, one that not only delivers on the superhero goods, but also serves up a realistic and relatable coming-of-age story as well. Here’s to hoping, at least.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.
