Star Trek Beyond Trailer To Play In Front Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

By December 7, 2015

It looks like we’ll soon boldly go to a galaxy far, far away.

You like that line? Took me almost three minutes to come up with it.

No, we’re not getting a Star Trek/ Star Wars crossover anytime soon, but according to THR it looks like the trailer for the upcoming third installment in the Star Trek reboot series, Star Trek Beyond will play in front of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. See? You can like both.

I can’t say that this is terribly surprising, with both of them being big sci-fi tentpole franchises, not to mention the whole J.J. Abrams/ Bad Robot connection. I just guess that my eyes were so focused on Star Wars that I didn’t realize that Star Trek had already filmed so much, let alone enough for a trailer. That is assuming of course that there will be any footage shown, the first teaser for the first film was just close-ups of the Enterprise under construction.

But we seem to be getting a trailer nonetheless. I don’t even think we have many plot details yet if any at all. This leads me to believe that filming Star Wars is J.J.’s biggest secrecy ploy ever. He draws all the attention away from Star Trek onto Star Wars so he doesn’t have to try so hard to hide the fact that John Harrison is Khan.

I’m just glad that we’ve finally reached a point where one can love both Star Wars and Star Trek. Thanks J.J.

With the trailer slots in front of Star Wars being like Super Bowl ads, there’s some speculation on what other trailers we might get like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day: Resurgence, and other fellow Disney titles like Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, and Finding Dory.

Star Trek Beyond directed by Justin Lin opens July 22nd, 2016 and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Sofia Boutella, Joe Taslim, and Idris Elba.
