‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Empire Covers Feature The Dark & Light Sides of the Film

By August 21, 2015

Lucasfilm and Disney have been running a near perfect promotional campaign for this year’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens a.k.a. the biggest film of all time. Everything that has been officially released for the film so far has been perfect in riding the balance between giving fans enough, without actually showing too much from the actual movie itself. We’re still not entirely sure what the film is even about at this point, and it looks like if J.J. Abrams and co. have their way, we won’t have any idea what’s in store for us when we walk into the theatres in December.

Following the release of the Force Awakens themed issue of Entertainment Weekly recently, it looks like fans are in for yet another Star Wars treat in the next few weeks. Today, Empire Magazine released two of their official Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers online, with each cover focusing heavily on either three light side or three dark side characters.

One of the covers features Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) gathered together on what looks like a Star Destroyer hangar bay. Meanwhile, the other features Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) standing in the desert next to the Millennium Falcon. Check out both covers below:

While the covers don’t pop as much as the one of Kylo Ren on EW did for me (I’m a sucker for simplicity), both of these covers are the definition of kick-ass. Although, it’s hard to notice anything released for this film so far that hasn’t been awesome. From the two teaser trailers, the behind-the-scenes footage shown at SDCC, to even the small Drew Struzan original D23 poster that was revealed last week – everything for this movie has just made it look better and better. Now, we just have to wait and cross our fingers that it ends up living up to our expectations.

We know that one more trailer is going to be released sometime between now and the release of the film in December (it’ll likely be attached to the other big Disney film this year, The Good Dinosaur, but that’s more like an educated guess than anything else at this point), and possibly some TV spots as well that’ll be making their way to the public at some point. However, for what will most likely end up being one of, if not, the biggest film of all time, Lucasfilm and Disney have done a hell of a job keeping the lid sealed tight on The Force Awakens, and for that, I thank them.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is set to hit theatres on December 18th.
