‘Suicide Squad’ Images Reveal The Joker’s Full Costume

By October 26, 2015

While Man of Steel seemed like a much colder intro into the new DC Cinematic Universe than I think many fans had hoped, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice seems to be setting itself up as a suitable and organic sequel to its predecessor, that will hopefully be welcome to a much more favorable reception by both critics and audience members alike. However, something that I personally appreciate about DC and their slate right now is the ballsiness and diversity of films that will follow. You would think that following Batman v Superman – which will likely be one of the biggest films of all time – the studio would try and match its predecessor with the same kind of scale and tone.

Instead, the studio has chosen David Ayer’s Suicide Squad as a follow-up film, which looks like one of the weirdest and most unique additions to the genre in years, featuring a cast entirely comprised of iconic DC villains, and the introduction of Jared Leto’s Joker. Alongside the Clown Prince of Gotham will be his twisted love in Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and more.

The comic-con trailer released earlier this year was met with a mostly positive reaction from fans, and it seems like excitement for the film might actually match the anticipation felt for Batman v Superman, and considering the potential of the film’s premise and tone – it’s easy to see why. Plus, we’ll get to see the first interaction between Ben Affleck’s Batman and Leto’s Joker, and who doesn’t want to at least be there to witness that?

The newest edition of Empire Magazine will be dedicated entirely to Suicide Squad and in anticipation of the issue’s release, the official cover (featuring our first look at The Joker’s full costume – cane and all) and new images from the film have been revealed. Check them out below:

“There was definitely a period of…detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games.”

There has been a lot of talk about Leto’s take on the performance so far, based solely on the images released and the small role he played in the film’s trailer as well, and while his portrayal has seemed to anger some, it also seems like it’s excited others. No matter what, it’s clear to see that everyone involved in Suicide Squad is doing their absolute best to not only honor the comic books and please fans, but also bring new and unique takes to their respective characters.

Also, knowing that the Joker is the one that not only tortures Harley in the trailer, but also turns her into his own personal sidekick and love interest makes those photos of the two shown above even more exciting. Out of everything that Suicide Squad has to offer, I don’t think I’m alone in looking forward to their onscreen relationship the most.

Suicide Squad is set to hit theatres on August 5th, 2016.
