Superman Confirmed to Appear in ‘Supergirl’ Season 2

By June 6, 2016

While Warner Bros. continues to find their footing with translating their slate of DC Comics properties to the big screen, there’s no denying that their TV projects are firing on all cylinders. The CW’s Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow are all major hits, and after a rocky first season on CBS, Supergirl will be jumping ship and joining the network’s ever-expanding lineup of characters – and she won’t be alone.

In a press release issued this morning, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Season 2 of Supergirl would be kicking off with a pretty significant guest star: Superman.

“Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

While the existence of Superman is something the series has never shied away from, this will mark the first time that he plays a major onscreen role in the show – and also the first time that two different actors will portray the character in two different mediums at the same time. If memory serves me correctly, we haven’t seen a live-action version of Clark Kent onscreen since the series finale of Smallville, and while there’s no casting news just yet, you can bet that regardless of who steps into the role, this will be a major television event – and a great way for Supergirl to hit the ground running in Season 2.

Supergirl will air on Monday nights when it returns this fall, exclusively on The CW.
