Tessa Thompson’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Character Revealed?

By April 14, 2016

Earlier this week, the cast for Thor: Ragnarok, a movie that seems to increase in its potential with every new announcement, landed yet another talented actress to its cast in Creed breakout star, Tessa Thompson. She joined the already cast Cate Blanchett in a mysterious villain role, along with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

However, the report failed to mention who Thompson would be playing, though she is expected to be a female hero of some kind, with the possibility to appear in other MCU movies, and will be taking over for Natalie Portman as Thor’s main love interest in the film.

Latino-Review is reporting that Thompson could be playing none other than Valkyrie in the film though, who in the comics, refers to the character (who’s actual name is Brunnhilde) chosen by Odin to lead the Valkyrior, the Asgardians who scan battlefields and choose the dead soldiers honorable enough to be allowed into Valhalla. The report also states that because Valkyrie is more or less a title, we may or may not see her before she takes on the role in the film, but nonetheless, the character could possibly appear again in Avengers: Infinity War.

Now, I should mention right away that this is nothing more than a rumor and should be treated as such. With that being said, Valkyrie does technically qualify as a kind of hero, and could act as a strong and fearsome love interest for Hemsworth’s Thor in the film. Plus, who doesn’t want to see Tessa Thompson dressed up in full Asgardian armor, watching over the fallen soldiers of Asgard?

The rest of the LR report also contains several spoiler details about how the character could factor into the film’s plot as well, which I’ll refrain from including here, but if interested, you can read them by clicking on the link above.

Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theatres on November 3rd, 2017.
