‘The Accountant’ Trailer Delves Further into Ben Affleck’s Dark Side

By July 28, 2016

Remember that first teaser trailer for The Accountant, where Ben Affleck’s socially maladjusted bookkeeper never utters a single word, yet still manages to give off an insanely creepy vibe? Truth be told, it’s one of my favorite trailers of 2016, offering plenty of intrigue while still keeping the plot shrouded in secrecy – a technique that I wish more studios would utilize.

But some folks aren’t fond of ambiguity, and a second trailer for The Accountant has arrived to paint a much clearer picture. Christian Wolff (Affleck) has apparently gotten himself involved with some very bad people, and when he winds up on the radar of the US Treasury Department, some of his clients may find it easier to remove him from the equation rather than risk him divulging their secrets.

Check out the new trailer for The Accountant.

And just in case the trailer left you scratching your head about what exactly is happening, here’s the official synopsis:

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.

Affleck looks to be on his A-game here, and Kendrick is certainly no slouch – it’s nice to see her doing something a bit more dramatic again. Also, the casting of J.K. Simmons as a world-weary government agent feels perfect. The film comes from director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior), and also includes appearances from Jeffrey Tambor, John Lithgow and Jon Bernthal.

The Accountant hits theaters on October 14.
