‘The Wolfman’ Movie Eyeing Dwayne Johnson to Star

By June 23, 2016

Yeah, you’re probably all thinking about seeing this movie now, aren’t you?

If you’ve been paying attention then you’re aware that Universal Studios has been heavily pursuing some A-list stars and personalities to headline their upcoming shared Universal Monsters movie universe. Some of the more notable confirmations and rumors have included Tom Cruise in The Mummy, Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man, Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, and Angelina Jolie as the Bride of Frankenstein.

It looks like they may have found their next movie star as well, with Deadline now reporting that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is being heavily courted by the studio to star in their upcoming reboot of The Wolfman franchise, as the film’s lead.

Prisoners writer, Aaron Guzikowski, is penning the film’s screenplay, with the new monster universe set to begin next year with the release of director Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, and Annabelle Wallis, and is set to hit theatres on June 9th, 2017.

While the deal is not yet done, this would be a big get for the studio if it works out, with The Rock’s onscreen popularity at an all-time high right now, and the actor/producer currently lining up an interesting array of projects, including DC’s Shazam!, Fast 8, Jumanji, Doc Savage, and more.

Will The Wolfman be the next film added to that slate? I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I think it’s safe to say that the audience anticipation and attention towards The Wolfman reboot may suddenly increase if this becomes official in any way.

The film does not currently have an announced release date, but if the studio manages to sign The Rock as their star, I imagine it won’t take very long for it to find one.
