‘Vampire Diaries’ Welcomes Back Nina Dobrev For Series Finale

By January 27, 2017

The Vampire Diaries fans have just a few more weeks before they have to face a tough reality that their show of the past eight seasons will soon be no more.

But at least they’ll have a chance to see Elena Gilbert again.

Nina Dobrev, who starred in the series between 2009 and 2015, will return for one last episode of The Vampire Diaries: its series finale on March 10.

The last time fans saw Elena, her life was tied to Kat Graham’s Bonnie Bennett in a way that as long as Bonnie was alive, Elena would need to sleep. The end of the sixth season dealt with the aftermath as Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore placed her in a coffin and instructed Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) to keep her hidden away in a Brooklyn warehouse.

It seems, however, Elena has found a way to come back. And it’s something showrunner Julie Plec told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement she was excited about.

“I’m thrilled to bring this show to an end the way we always intended – with Nina back to help us say good-bye.”

Since leaving Vampire Diaries, Dobrev played Becky Clearidge in Vin Diesel’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and has three other projects in the works, including a remake of the 1990 classic thriller Flatliners, which hits theaters Sept. 25.

When Dobrev left, she had a clause in her contract that would allow her to come back for the finale. She joins Trevino who returned this year after taking Season 7 off.

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays on The CW.
