Wait, Mark Ruffalo is Already Done Filming ‘Thor: Ragnarok’?

By August 3, 2016

From the moment that it was first confirmed he’d be in the film, it’s sounded like Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk would have a legitimately large role in next year’s Thor: Ragnarok, which has been repeatedly described as an intergalactic, buddy road movie between he and Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder. Even in the concept art shown during the film’s SDCC panel a few weeks ago, it was clear that Hulk was going to have a large presence in the story, from what we could tell at least.

However, it looks like Mark Ruffalo’s time on the actual set of Ragnarok may have already come to an end, thanks to a new Instagram post from his co-star, Tessa Thompson, who will be playing the role of Valkyrie in the movie.

Warning: she is sporting a fairly creepy face mask in the photo next to Ruffalo in his self-titled “man-cancelling” mo-cap suit. Together, they look like a very strange behind-the-scenes version of the Odd Couple.

Now, it’s possible that Ruffalo is just done with his time on the movie’s set, but will still be doing large amounts of performance capture-driven scenes for the film off location as well. However, going off of the wording by Thompson, it certainly makes it sound like Ruffalo is done with principal work on the sequel, which is strange considering they just started filming a few weeks ago.

Unless of course, Taika Waititi is moving faster with his schedule than basically any other Marvel director to date, which is also possible. Then again, it’s possible that Hulk just doesn’t have as large of a role in the movie as we might have assumed, and is more of a strong supporting player than anything else. It would make sense, considering you know, it’s not his name in the title after all.

Or we’re reading way too much into this, and should probably just go back to bed. Honestly, I don’t know which is more likely right about now.

Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theatres on November 3rd, 2017.
