Web Darling “Husbands” Is Back…

By August 16, 2012

That’s right, darlings.

With a quick wit and even quicker run time to match, season one of Husbands became the one show on everyone’s lips and in everyone’s ears…and giving the traditional “straight marrieds” sitcoms a serious run for next season’s Louboutins (what? Cheeks would SO approve).

Written by Jane Espenson (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Torchwood) and Brad “Cheeks” Bell (who also stars), Husbands tells the story of two men (one a pro baseball player, the other a borderline-obnoxious-with-a-soupçon-of-adorable tabloid darling) who, after dating for a mere 6 weeks, hit Vegas to celebrate the federal amendment for marriage equality, get shitfaced and end up married to each other.

Sounds like your typical sitcom, right? Wrong.

With pressure from organizations like GLAAD NOT to pull a “Britney” and be the first publicly married gay couple to get divorced in less than 10 hours combined with Brady’s (played by Sean Hemeon) need to be a positive role model as a newly out and proud gay athlete, Cheeks and Brady decide their gonna make it work and work IT.

Along for the ride is Cheeks’ bff Haley (Caprica‘s Alessandra Torressani) who supports them and their weirdness, no matter what (like a good bff should).

Here’s the very first episode to give you a little amuse bouche…

Fierce, right? Season 2 premiered last night but DON’T PANIC – with an average run time of 3 minutes or less each, you can blow (tee hee) through the first season in less than 30 minutes!

I gotta say, Espenson and Bell found a smart way to take the “we barely know each other and got married” formula and updated it to be not only funny but made it relevant and endearing, too.

With a stellar list of guest appearances from the likes of Jon Cryer, Dichen Lachmann, Mekhi Phifer, Joss Whedon (yes, THAT Joss Whedon) and SO many more – pretty sure season two will NOT disappoint.
