The Winter Soldier Confirmed to Return in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

By August 10, 2016

Thanks to where Captain America: Civil War left him in the film’s mid credits scene, it was clear that Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe once again sometime down the line, with rumors of a possible role in Black Panther circulating online ever since the film’s release. While that possibility still remains open as well, it looks like we know one other film we can for sure look forward to seeing Bucky in again.

In a report adding him to the cast of director Stacie Passon’s We Have Always Lived In The CastleTHR has revealed that Stan will be one of the many Marvel stars set to be shooting Infinity War in Atlanta early next year, though no plot details regarding his role in the film were revealed. It’s Marvel after all, and we’re going to have to wait a long time before we know anything about Infinity War anyways.

Currently, Bucky has been put back into a cryogenic sleep (this time under his own volition), and is one of the many MCU team members currently hiding out in T’Challa’s Wakandan compound, along with Steve Rogers/Captain America, and a few others.

Thanks to Tony Stark, being woken up isn’t the only thing that will have to happen in order to bring Bucky back into the fight though, since he’s also in some serious need of a new metal arm as well, though I imagine being in Wakanda might make that a little bit simpler for him, whenever he decides he needs a new upgrade again.

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see he and some of the other possible Avengers show up at one point in the Black Panther standalone, since they are after all hiding out in his country as well, though the spotlight is clearly going to be on Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa and the other incredible cast members of the film. Whether or not Bucky ends up being one of them will have to wait to be seen, but at least we know we won’t have to wait that much longer to see him return on the big screen once again.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theatres on May 4th, 2018.
