‘Wonder Woman’ Official Cast Announced With First Image of Gal Gadot in Costume

By November 21, 2015

We’re only just a few more months away from the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will mark the beginning of a new era in the DC Cinematic Universe (hopefully). However, production has already begun and finished on a small number of future DC films already, with one of the biggest being 2017’s standalone Wonder Woman film. There’s been a lot of talk surrounding the film’s time periods and settings up until this point too, along with Chris Pine so far confirmed to be playing Steve Trevor alongside Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Nicole Kidman has also been rumored for a role in the film.

Other than that though, hardly any new information about the movie has been released so far.

However, with production on the standalone finally underway, the first official image of Gadot in costume in the movie has been revealed, as well as the final cast lineup. Check out the image and official press release below:

“BURBANK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman feature film, the highly anticipated action adventure from director Patty Jenkins (“Monster,” AMC’s “The Killing”), starring Gal Gadot (the “Fast & Furious” movies) in the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The character will make her big screen debut this spring in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but the new film will mark her first time headlining a feature.

The film also stars Chris Pine (the “Star Trek” films) as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Danny Huston (“Clash of the Titans,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), David Thewlis (the “Harry Potter” films, “The Theory of Everything”), Ewen Bremner (“Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Snowpiercer”), Saïd Taghmaoui (“American Hustle”), Elena Anaya (“The Skin I Live In”) and Lucy Davis (“Shaun of the Dead”).
The film is being produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven serving as executive producers.

Joining Jenkins behind the camera are director of photography Matthew Jensen (“Chronicle,” “Fantastic Four,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (“Amélie,” “A Very Long Engagement,” “Pan”), and Oscar-winning editor Martin Walsh (“Chicago,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” “V for Vendetta”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Topsy-Turvy”).
Principal photography will take place on location in the UK, France and Italy.

Set to open in 2017, the Wonder Woman feature film is based on characters created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.”

Interestingly enough, it looks like Kidman is absent from the cast list, and it’s possible that Robin Wright was eventually picked over her. The press release doesn’t offer any plot details from the film or who each of the new cast members will be playing, other than those already confirmed like Pine and Gadot. It is interesting that Pine is billed as Captain Steve Trevor, which plays into some of the previous rumors that Gadot’s Diana Prince would run into the character during one of the two world wars.

The image is interesting too because it features London’s iconic Big Ben in the background, meaning that we’ll likely be seeing the character making her way through England at some point in time, although we don’t know if it will be in the present day or the past. We still don’t really know what to expect from this interpretation of the character though, as her character still has yet to speak a single line in any of the Batman v Superman trailers up until this point. However, it seems like fans have become slightly more optimistic about the casting from when it was originally announced, and all we can do right now is sit and hope that Wonder Woman will be able to live up to fans’ expectations. After all, we’ve only been waiting a long time for this movie to come around.

Wonder Woman is set to hit theatres on June 23rd, 2017.
