‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Will Feature a Dazzler Easter Egg

By April 29, 2016

The X-Men films are somewhat notorious for their cameos and Easter eggs, and hidden references. It’s almost impossible for one of the films to begin and end without there being teases of what’s to come in some way, or featuring iconic mutants in the film, in little more than glorified cameos. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it’s just a bit disappointing.

Looks like the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse won’t be breaking that tradition by any means either, as evidenced by a new still from the film released by Sophie Turner yesterday, which features the confirmation of a new cameo in the film.

Turner recently posted the following image on her Instagram, which features her Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops at a record store, holding an album by none other than Dazzler:

It should be noted that last year Taylor Swift was rumored to be playing a small role in the film, which producer Simon Kinberg later disproved. However, if she’s playing Dazzler in a cameo/Easter egg role, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kinberg was more or less just trying to throw fans off their trail. Especially since Turner not only made a reference to 1989, Swift’s most recent album, but even went as far as to tag Swift in the image as well, directly over the album Sheridan’s holding.

So can we take this as confirmation of the well-known pop star’s cameo? Not yet, but it certainly seems like it.

For those of you who don’t know, Dazzler is actually a world famous pop star in the X-Men comic book universe, who uses her mutant powers of being able to convert sound energy into light energy frequently during her performances and pop star gimmick. However, she can also use her powers to fight others as well and with Jubillee set to make her introduction in Apocalypse as well, a character I don’t think fans ever thought Bryan Singer and co. would ever actually have the balls to include in one of their films, I hope that Dazzler isn’t reduced to only being featured on an album cover in the film. That’d be slightly disappointing.

Especially if they got Swift to play the role, one of the most famous and powerful pop stars in music industry history. Can you imagine the kind of cross-promotion possibilities? I’m not saying I necessarily want Swift to take on the role actually in one of the films and play a supporting character by any means, but having Dazzler start being a recurring character/personality in the films moving forwards, could help to lighten up the tone of the X-Men films, especially in light of the practically all black/grey costumes being exhibited once again in Apocalypse… Sigh.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theatres on May 27th.
